In the Netherlands, catmint is better known as kattennip (often spelled kattekruid). Cats seem to have a particular fondness for this herb. They will always seek it out and become very excited when they find it.
In humans, catnip has a relaxing effect; it is often used to promote sleep and to relieve menstrual discomfort. It has a pleasant taste.
Effects
Catmint is a mild, relaxing hallucinogen. After drinking strong tea, it provides a pleasant sense of relaxation, provides a light "high," and has a stimulating effect on the imagination. The taste is very pleasant. Perfect for a relaxing evening, for example, listening to soothing music or to unwind after a busy day.
Use
It is possible to make tea with this herb and use approximately 25 grams per 1 liter of water. Bring to a boil and let it steep for 15 minutes. Then strain, add honey or sugar if desired, and it is ready to use. Drink one cup first and wait for the effects before taking more.
