Lophophora decepiens is a lesser-known peyote cactus variety, but it has started gaining attention for a very practical reason—its relatively fast growth.
For many growers and collectors of psychoactive or ornamental cacti, waiting a decade for a peyote specimen to mature can be gruelling. L. decipiens offers a faster alternative without compromising the plant’s traditional character.
Leon Croizat first described L. decipiens, stating it was found near Torreon and El Ampero in Coahuila, Mexico. Like other peyote cacti, it contains mescaline, a psychoactive compound.
